Description: Advanced Placement Language courses are designed to help the students “function in the language” rather than “learn language function”. AP promotes fluency and accuracy in language use, recognizing the importance of grammar but placing priority on all forms of communication with respect to six general themes: contemporary life, science & technology, global challenges, family & communities, personal & public identities and art & aesthetics. A diverse range of authentic materials are employed, enhanced by current technological accessibility.

Description: Level I language classes are designed to establish familiarity with the language and the various countries and cultures where the target language is spoken. Description: Level III is conducted primarily in the target language. Emphasis is placed on the ability to use the language in original situations while refining accuracy. There is a strong focus on the formal structure of the language which includes syntax and grammar. Description: Level IV is an honors course that is conducted in the target language. Use of language will be refined and expanded. Composition is stressed, as are conversation and discussion on topics concerning history, literature, art and music, and current events. Depending on the college, the student may test out of the requirement based upon selected major.
