Prerequisite B or better in PE 1 and certification in First Aid/CPR. As per the American Red Cross, students must be 15 years old by the end of the course. Students are required to participate in a prerequisite test on the second day of the course which consists of a 300 meter swim, 2 minutes of legs only treading water, and a 10 lb brick retrieval in deep water. A passing score on all 3 tests is required to remain in the course.
Special Consideration Students will be required to purchase a $41 certification within the first 2 weeks of the class or they will be dropped from the class.

Description:

Upon successful completion of the course, students will obtain a certification from the American Red Cross in Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR and AED which is valid for 2 years. The course is both in the pool and in the classroom. Students will be required to purchase a $41 certification within the first 2 weeks of the class or they will be dropped from the course. The course consists of injury prevention, effective surveillance strategies, shallow and deep water rescue skills, CPR, AED, breathing emergencies, first aid and head, neck, and spinal injuries.
