Description:

This course will explore the fascinating world of horror fiction across different time periods, determining how early gothic works influence horror writers today. The course analyzes a variety of important horror texts, in literature and film, in an attempt to understand the significance of this genre in the development of American culture and the evolution of both fear and monsters. The course also addresses the psychological issues of the attraction to this genre, along with historical and cultural influences. Various elements of fiction: character analysis, plot, narration, use of symbols, theme, tone and style, are examined in each text.
