Description:

Honors Chemistry is designed to challenge students and prepare students for college science courses. An accelerated pace and development of critical thinking skills are a course focus. This course is recommended for any student with plans in majoring in science, math, medicine, and engineering. The chemical concepts covered in the course are experimentation and measurement, atomic structure and the history of the discovery of the atom, periodicity, physical and chemical properties of matter, chemical reactions, nomenclature of organic and inorganic substances, the mole and stoichiometry, chemical bonding, equilibrium and solution chemistry, gases, acid and base equilibria, reaction kinetics, nuclear chemistry, and organic chemistry. THIS COURSE IS FOR HIGHLY MOTIVATED STUDENTS. IT INVOLVES CONSIDERABLE LABORATORY WORK AND MATHEMATICAL CALCULATIONS. STUDENTS IN THE COURSE SHOULD EXPECT TO BE CHALLENGED AND CAN ANTICIPATE AN EXTENDED WORKLOAD. STUDENTS SHOULD BE PROFICIENT IN GRAPHING.
